To use the calculator simply fill in the options at the top (length, video format and audio format) and the suggested TMPGEnc options will be displayed at the bottom. To update the results click anywhere on the page. Make sure your browser supports JavaScript and that scripts are not disabled.

The calculator assumes you are creating a 4.7 GB DVD with a single audio stream per movie. These limitations are deliberate, to keep the interface as simple as possible. If you're making a DVD with multiple audio streams, select "compressed" as the audio format and fill the text field with the total bitrate (ie, the audio bitrate multipled by the number of audio streams). The actual audio encoding (PCM, MPA, AC3 or DTS) is not relevant; the bitrate is all that's necessary.

Note that the GOP suggestions are made with no knowledge of the type of footage or final DVD structure; you may need to adjust them to each case. In most cases, a balanced generic value is suggested, followed by a range of alternatives (ex.: "2 (0 to 5)"). For information regarding the other TMPGEnc settings, click here. Note that the values suggested by this calculator can be used with other MPEG-2 encoders; you don't have to use TMPGEnc.
